How to Plan the Best International Girlfriends Getaway

Planning the best international girlfriends’ getaway can be an exciting and a memorable adventure. Whether you're looking for relaxation on a beach, cultural exploration in a new city, or outdoor adventures in a natural wonderland, there are plenty of options to consider. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you plan the ultimate international girlfriends’ getaway:

1. Set a Budget:

Determine the budget for the trip. This will help you narrow down your destination options and set expectations for accommodations, activities, and dining.

2. Choose the Destination:

Consider the interests and preferences of your group. Do you want a beach vacation, a city break, or an adventure in nature? Research destinations that fit your criteria and budget. Some popular options include Bali, Paris, Tulum, Iceland, and Thailand. Check travel restrictions, visa requirements, and safety advisories for your chosen destination.

3. Decide on the Duration:

Determine how long you'll be traveling. A weekend getaway, a week-long vacation, or even a more extended trip will require different levels of planning.

4. Select Dates:

Coordinate with your girlfriends to find a set of dates that work for everyone. Consider the best time to visit your chosen destination. Weather, tourist season, and local events can impact your experience. When coordinating a group traveling to Paris next year, we had to work around the Olympics, Special Olympics, and Fashion week.

5. Plan Accommodations:

Decide on the type of accommodation that suits your group's preferences and budget. Options include hotels, all-inclusive, or even glamping. Book your accommodations well in advance, especially if you're traveling during peak season.

6. Create an Itinerary:

Research and list down the must-see attractions, activities, and restaurants in your destination.

Prioritize your choices and create a rough itinerary to ensure you make the most of your time. This is usually where I start when planning a dream vacation for someone is to start sketching the timeline.

7. Pack Smart:

Share packing lists and tips with your friends to ensure you have everything you need for the trip.

Pack lightly and efficiently, considering the weather and activities you have planned.

8. Plan Group Activities:

Schedule group activities that everyone can enjoy, such as spa days, cooking classes, or guided tours.

Be open to individual downtime as well to explore personal interests. This is also the time to set boundaries to include carving out time for yourself, having an agreement that that everyone does not have to do all the activities together.

9. Budget for Expenses:

Discuss how you'll split expenses for accommodations, food, activities, and transportation.

Consider using apps like Splitwise to track and manage shared expenses.

10. Safety and Health Precautions:

Check vaccination and health requirements for your destination. Purchase travel insurance to cover unexpected incidents.

11. Stay Connected:

Share contact information, including emergency contacts, with your friends. Keep copies of important documents like passports and travel insurance.

12. Capture Memories:

Bring cameras or smartphones to capture moments and consider creating a shared photo album or journal.

13. Be Flexible:

While it's good to have a plan, be flexible and open to new experiences and spontaneity. I recommend not packing the calendar full. It allows space to for the spontaneity or rest if you want it.

14. Stay Safe:

Be aware of your surroundings and follow local safety guidelines. Keep your belongings secure to avoid theft. Stay in pairs as a minimum. When shopping, keep your purse in front of you to discourage theft.

15. Enjoy and Bond:

Most importantly, have fun, relax, and enjoy each other's company. International girlfriends’ getaways are about creating lasting memories and strengthening friendships.

Remember that the key to a successful international girlfriends’ getaway is good communication, flexibility, and a sense of adventure. Plan together, but also allow room for spontaneity and unexpected discoveries. Enjoy your trip!
